When it comes to writing fiction, for me, it really helps to have a plan, and … unfortunately … it also helps to have so much “recent inspiration” when it comes to the horrible things people have done (in terms of terrorism and gross acts of misconduct – I’m thinking of the Italian cruise ship, specifically).  What “The Fallen” tries to envision is an attack so massive, so secretive that even beings with advanced technology can’t see it coming and can’t preempt its onset.  However, they can certainly respond to it, and they can bend a lot of rules doing so.  Can you imagine a war fought (with real battles) all across a world which lasts only a single day?  A war where all the battles are public, but the combatants are hidden from the eyes of everyone?  Suddenly, horrible tragedies and wondrous miracles are occurring across the globe at the same time, and it’s just … Tuesday.  The normal flow of life … interrupted.  For all of us who lived through such events (usually one event at the time, thankfully) we know what that’s like when it happens, and what happens in the days to come.

I already have a start on Chapter 3, and some more of the same is coming.  In Chapter 4, however, there will be a twist, and an important question asked.  More on that later… JTL
